Overview

In a world where “replace with new” has become the mantra of consumerism, we decided to show that repairing can be not only practical but also fascinating.

On the occasion of the 100th birthday of Adam Słodowy, the Polish king of DIY, we organized a two-day event celebrating the culture of repairing.

Main objectives

❋ Organizing the event at the National Museum of Technology in Poland

❋ Developing a workshop program for different age groups

❋ Coordinating repair workshops for children, teenagers, and young adults

❋ Organizing a debate with experts from the repair industry

❋ Preparing the birthday reception and networking event

Event schedule

❋ “Repairing toys” – workshop for children up to 9 years old

❋ “Repairing smartphones” – meeting for teenagers, disassembling and learning about smartphones construction

❋ “Repairing computers” – workshop for young adults, learning to repair and disassemble computer equipment

❋  Debate with experts on the future of repair culture and supporting craft cooperatives and repair cafes

❋  Birthday reception and networking

Achieved effects

❋ Increased awareness about the possibilities of repairing instead of replacing equipment

❋ Education of participants in the construction and repair of various electronic devices

❋ Integration of the community interested in repair culture

❋ Promotion of the idea of craft cooperatives and repair cafes

❋ Honoring the memory of Adam Słodowy and his contribution to DIY culture in Poland

❋ Creating a platform for discussion about the future of the repair market and sustainable approach to consumption

Main reflection

This event not only honored the legend of Polish DIY but also instilled the spirit of DIY in participants and showed that repair can be just as exciting as buying new equipment.

Thanks to the collaboration with the naprawia.MY collective, we managed to create a space where different generations could jointly discover the joy of giving technology a second life.
