Overview

Guest lecture at the Delhi FOSS conference at Indian Institute of Technology, or how to convince developers that their code can be not only beautiful but also less harming for the environment.

Lecture assumptions

Presentation of my latest e-waste feasibility studies – because sometimes you need to show programmers a mountain of garbage to make them pay attention to code cleanliness

Introduction of alternatives approaches and tools for optimizing energy consumption during code execution

Afterward, verification of understanding the digital ecology narrative through a mini focus group – because what’s the point of talking if no one understood?

The results

I’ve gained many insights that allow me to build stronger, more powerful narratives. More importantly, developers have begun to evaluate their code not just in terms of line count, but also in terms of energy consumption. Because it turns out that the most “green” code is the one that doesn’t exist.
